This announcement has also resulted in one user starting an online petition to see if Google will reconsider their decision to release a VoIP client. Google has elected against releasing a thick client because plans are underway to have a browser based client available. So far, the website giveusgvdesktop.com has collected 1,663 virtual signatures. The site still has a long ways to go to reach its stated goal of 500,000 signatures which it hopes will be sufficient to show the popularity of a desktop client. The Google Voice VoIP application offers an alternative to another popular VoIP service, Skype, which boasts a user base of 500 million.

Mozilla Firefox 4 – WebM Video Codec Support Recently, Google announced the release of an open-source video codec called WebM, which should finally solve the many problems with the video on the Internet. Then there was some friction over the licenses that eventually Google decided to remove slightly modifying codec. Google has resolved the licensing issue and has already added support for WebM to a beta version of Chrome. Apparently, following the Chrome , Mozilla is implemented these codec in the next build Firefox 4.
