Google Voice
Google has scrapped plans for a Google Voice Voice Over IP (VoIP) desktop client, much to the disappointment of many users. This announcement has also resulted in one user starting an online petition to see if Google will reconsider their decision to release a VoIP client.
Google has elected against releasing a thick client because plans are underway to have a browser based client available. So far, the website giveusgvdesktop.com has collected 1,663 virtual signatures. The site still has a long ways to go to reach its stated goal of 500,000 signatures which it hopes will be sufficient to show the popularity of a desktop client.
The Google Voice VoIP application offers an alternative to another popular VoIP service, Skype, which boasts a user base of 500 million.
